In Grade Five, students will. . .

 

RELIGION:

·          Understand the Church as a sign of Christ’s presence among us

·          Know the Laws/Precepts of the Church

·          Study the seven Sacraments, their   scriptural basis, and meaning

·          Know that all life is Sacramental

·          Become involved in the Liturgy

·          Deepen knowledge of the Liturgical Year

·          Experience prayers of praise, thanksgiving, petition and sorrow,

·          Know and understand  the Mysteries of the Rosary and the Stations of the Cross

·          Understand conscience, sins of omission and commission, personal sin and social sin and basic Social Justice issues

LANGUAGE ARTS

·          Develop abilities to infer, analyze, critique, summarize, and compare/contrast reading passages

·          Use the five-stage writing process to develop writing in varied forms

·          Predict outcome

·          Distinguish fact and opinion

·          Monochromatic color scheme introduced along with complementary colors

·          Terms of transparent, translucent, opaque are differentiated

·          Three dimensional forms such as cube, cylinder, sphere are studied and drawn

·          Contour drawing is introduced, watercolor technique expanded

·          Reversed printed images, coil and slab clay work, stitchery design

 

MUSIC

·          Listen to music of various cultures

·           Practice appropriate behavior during live performances

·          Read more complicated music

  ·          Create simple compositions

·          Strengthen rhythm skills

·          Learn folk dances of various cultures

 

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

·          Motor skill development

·          Learn simple games, relays, singing,  stunts, tumbling, and apparatus work

·          Reinforcement of movement

·          Body mechanics in the areas of fitness, individual, dual and team sports is continued

 

TECHNOLOGY BENCHMARKS

·          Maintain keyboarding skills

·          20 words at 90% accuracy

·          Integrate typing throughout the curriculum to reinforce the typing skills learned

·          Set Margins and Tabs

·          Create Folders and Classify own documents

·          Choose Font and Size

·          Access Template when necessary

·          Use simple programs combining Text and Graphics

·          Individual project based on Research Topics from science, social studies or school theme

·          Learn strategies for Online Searching which aid in the management and movement of data

·          Use Online Resources that are appropriate for the learner and the topic

·          Produce a product using Online Sources combined with other sources
